Strength Training for Women

"Only men do weights," "I'm afraid doing weights will bulk me up or make me gain weight," Sound familiar, ladies? All too often women are afraid to begin a strength training routine because they are afraid they will get too bulky, gain weight or look too masculine. Please try to put these misconceptions out of your mind. Strength training is essential for overall health. A strength routine will tone and firm your muscles and boost your metabolism- therefore increasing the calories you burn on a daily basis. You will also increase your lean muscle mass and for every pound of lean muscles mass you have, you burn an additional 30-50 calories a day just because those muscles exist! Women do not have enough testosterone in their body to look like a male body builder- so no worries. Strength training also helps in injury prevention because we strengthen our muscles and our tendons. We experience improved balance as we train because we are creating a strong and solid foundation through our core and legs. By performing strength workouts, you will have a better overall quality of life.
